How Do Electric Golf Carts Work?
An electric cart is four components doing one job: moving stored energy into forward motion, smoothly enough to be controllable.
The chain
- Battery pack stores the energy
- Controller meters how much of it reaches the motor
- Motor converts it to rotation, geared down for torque
- Charger refills the pack from a standard outlet
Where the feel comes from
The controller decides how the cart behaves: how sharply it accelerates, how it behaves at low speed and how regenerative braking feels when you lift off. Two carts with the same motor can drive very differently.
Why batteries dominate the experience
A tired pack makes even a healthy controller and motor feel flat, because voltage sags under load. Which is why diagnosing performance problems starts at the batteries, not the motor.
