Light Up Your Ride: A Guide to Golf Cart Lights

Lighting falls into two categories: what makes the cart safer after dark, and what makes it visible at a party. Both matter; only one is required.

Safety lighting

  • Headlights with a proper low beam, not a floodlight
  • Tail and brake lights that read clearly from behind
  • Turn signals and mirror where road rules require them
  • A horn, even where nothing requires it

Power and wiring

Add lights through a fused circuit off the battery, with a relay for higher-draw items. Running accessories directly through switches is how wiring harnesses end up melted.

Decorative lighting

Underglow and accent strips are fine for private property and events. On public roads, bright or flashing lights can attract attention for the wrong reasons — check local rules before wiring them in.
