Choosing a Golf Cart Trailer

A trailer is how most carts travel, and the wrong one makes every trip tense. Match the trailer to the cart, not to whatever was cheapest.

What to match

  • Deck length against cart bumper-to-bumper length
  • Axle rating against cart weight plus your cargo
  • Ramp angle — steep ramps catch rear overhangs and low carts
  • Tie-down points positioned over the frame rails

Loading

Load on level ground, go slow up the ramp, and chock the wheels before you unstrap. Low-speed vehicles roll freely and will find the nearest ditch if given the chance.

Legal bits

Lights, plate and safety chains where required, plus a license class that covers the combined weight in your state. Check the rules before the first trip, not the first checkpoint.
